Early Childhood Summer Program Teacher

Job Summary/Description


Our STEM summer program has been a success for over thirty years. We pride ourselves in offering a hands-on diverse nature curriculum. Our spiral curriculum is heavily influenced by STEM. The interior spaces provide many curated materials from astronomy to zoology and so much more. We will be utilizing the Montessori classrooms, providing a horticultural program and many scheduled activities. This summer program begins from June ninth and finishes August eighth. The summer program teacher shall support the school’s efforts toward achieving and maintaining Montessori professional standards. Additionally, the summer program teacher shall be a model of professionalism for parents, children and staff.


The summer program teacher is supportive of the individual needs of the children in accordance with the school’s mission and vision.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide and supervise a healthy, safe, social, and intellectual environment
  • Model, communicate and encourage consistent behavioral interactions
  • Foster the development of independence and collaboration
  • Model and encourage the development of problem solving
  • Communicate with parents effectively when needed
  • Communicate with the director prior to speaking with a parent regarding health, well being and behavioral
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with staff members
  • Collaborate and provide guided lessons that adhere to the summer program’s curriculum
  • Prepare, organize, replenish and maintain classroom materials and supplies
  • Follow the recommendations and requirements of the state regulators Department of Early Childhood and Care (EEC)
  • Follow the procedures and protocols found within the employee handbook. Examples of these include the school’s evacuation plan and health and wellbeing


Essential Functions

  • Frequent bending, lifting and reaching are required.
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.
  • Attends and participates in a weekly meeting


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ideally, a High school graduate or GED. An associates or bachelor’s degree in early childhood is preferred from an accredited college or university
  • Experience working with toddlers or children ages 2.9 - 6 within an early childhood setting
  • Successful candidates will need to pass a background CORI check and remain current on First Aid/CPR certifications

Early Childhood Classroom Assistant

Job Summary/Description


The Early Childhood Classroom Assistant is responsible for implementing a Montessori curriculum utilizing Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), American Montessori Society (AMS), National Center for Montessori Education (NCME) or another recognized developmentally appropriate Montessori practice. They support the school’s efforts toward achieving and maintaining Montessori professional standards. Additionally, the Early Childhood Classroom Assistant should be a model of professionalism for parents, children and staff.


The assistant teacher is responsible for providing a Montessori classroom/instructional program that supports the individual needs of the children in accordance with the school’s mission and vision.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide and supervise a healthy emotional, social, intellectual and physical environment; enrich and maintain the overall classroom to include creating and providing materials
  • Organize and manage the classroom, plan daily curriculum, facilitate student growth in developmental, academic and cognitive domains by promoting student participation in the learning experience
  • Supervise all activities to always ensure the safety of the children
  • Communicate with the children in a clear, concise manner; maintain positive discipline techniques and interact with the children in a manner that is appropriate, loving, and structured
  • Foster the development of independence and collaboration
  • Model and encourage the development of problem solving
  • Work with the lead teacher to make periodic changes in Montessori materials and classroom essentials reflecting the ever-changing needs of the children
  • Implement changes in thematic units based upon the season and school’s curriculum
  • Maintain an up-to-date log or observations on each child; periodically assess student growth and development and review assessment results with parents and administration
  • Communicate with parents effectively in both verbal and written format and encourage parent participation in school programs and functions whenever possible
  • Always communicate clearly and respectfully with other staff members; work with staff members in a professional and ethical manner with a willingness to develop and maintain a cooperative team approach; understand that classroom maintenance and care of the children are shared responsibilities
  • Prepares children and families for success with shared procedures and Grace & Courtesy
  • Plans and present lessons according to a collaboratively developed Montessori curriculum
  • Record lesson plans, presentations, and observations in shared platform
  • Gives diagnostic lessons and assessments to identify children’s skills in large language, literacy and mathematics
  • Plans for additional skill-based lessons based on evaluation of children’s progress
  • Identifies Key Children in need of further support
  • Collaborates with families to implement Action Plans for children
  • Prepare and organize necessary supplies and materials
  • Work toward growing and expanding the scope of offerings
  • Oversee and improve the program currently offered
  • Assess and evaluate the effectiveness and success of lessons and programs
  • Assure compliance with all relevant governmental rules and regulations

Essential Functions

  • Frequent bending, lifting and reaching are required; the ability to always remain physically aware of the location of all children in a specific group
  • Standing for long periods and the ability to lift a young child if necessary
  • Being physically capable of interacting with children 2 years of age through 6 years of age
  • Must be mentally and emotionally prepared and capable of dealing with children in a mature, non-threatening manner
  • Regular attendance, ability to respond to an emergency, ability to visually supervise children
  • Create written notes of meetings
  • Participates in co-teacher meetings, team and school-wide planning and professional development
  • Collaborates with team to implement shared curriculum
  • Participate in classroom family communication and meetings
  • Participate in conferences with families according to school schedule
  • Responds to colleagues and families in a timely manner


Professional Development

  • Reflection with a Montessori Coach or Director in regularly scheduled meetings
  • Set goals for improving practice independently
  • Co-creates annual professional growth goals/objectives with the Montessori Coach or Director
  • Receives written evaluation feedback
  • Complete mandated EEC (the Department of Early Education and Care) state requirement training
  • Pursues opportunities for professional growth annually

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduation or GED; bachelor’s degree in early childhood education
  • Experience working with children ages 2.9 - 6 within a child development setting
  • Experience working with children
  • Holds assistant teacher qualifications under the EEC (Department of Early Education Center) or is a candidate for such holding
  • Strong planning, organizing, and management skills
  • Demonstrated verbal and written skills
  • Ability to provide a physically & emotionally safe environment for elementary children in both indoor and outdoor settings
  • Positive and proactive communication and interpersonal skills

Early Childhood Art Program Teacher 

Job Summary/Description


Our art program has been a success for over sixty years. We provide a nature driven spiral curriculum. This curriculum prioritizes process over product focusing on exploration, creative expression and fine motor skill development through a variety of art materials. Our art program provides opportunities for children to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas through art. Social emotional development through art activities can promote sharing, cooperation and communication. 


Montessori art curriculum teaches children the elements and principles of design. Across various art domains such as painting, drawing and crafting. Montessori curriculum introduces different elements like line, shape, form and texture. 


As a Montessori school, we encourage a welcoming, stimulating space for self exploration, reflection and discussion. Pincushion Hill offers an annual family art show which displays each child's accumulated art portfolio.

We have one Toddler room servicing ages 18 months to 2.9 years of age. There are two Children’s House classrooms servicing the individual needs of ages 2.9-6.0.
